How Bulk Pickup Works in Macomb County

Most cities in Macomb County pick up big items at the curb on your regular trash day. The catch is that every city has its own limits, and some of the most common junk never qualifies. Here's how it works in Sterling Heights and Warren, and what to do with anything the truck leaves behind.

Sterling Heights

Trash in Sterling Heights is collected by Priority Waste on your regular collection day. Bulk items are picked up weekly, with a limit of five items per week.

If you're not sure whether something qualifies, or you need a special pickup, call Priority Waste at (586) 228-1200 or the city's Department of Public Works at (586) 446-2440.

Warren

Warren's Sanitation Division picks up trash weekly. Set large items like furniture, mattresses, carpet and appliances neatly next to your carts by 6 AM on collection day, and no earlier than 6 PM the night before.

  • Mattresses with bed bugs must be wrapped and sealed in plastic.
  • Carpet and padding must be cut, rolled and tied in four foot lengths.
  • Refrigerators and freezers must be empty with the doors removed.
  • Air conditioners and dehumidifiers need the Freon removed by a licensed company, with a sticker on the unit to prove it.

Warren will not pick up mirrors, glass, doorwalls, windows, garage doors, building materials, dirt, sod, mulch, bricks, rocks, tires, shingles, concrete, or hazardous waste like oil and paint. Questions go to the Sanitation Division at (586) 775-1400.

Landlords take note: Warren expects owners to remove debris when a rental is vacated, and anything left at the curb on collection day can be billed for removal.

What Usually Doesn't Make It Onto the Truck

  • More items than your city's weekly limit
  • Remodel debris like drywall, cabinets, shingles and lumber
  • Concrete, brick, dirt and rocks
  • Tires
  • Anything too big or too heavy for one person to lift
  • Things you can't get out of the basement or upstairs on your own

When It's Easier to Call Us

Curbside pickup is great for a couch or a mattress you can drag to the curb yourself. For a whole garage, a basement, a rental turnover, or anything the city won't take, that's where we come in.

We come inside and carry everything out, load it, haul it away and sweep up. You'll know the exact price before we lift anything, and you don't even need to be home.

How It Works

  1. 1. Text us a photo

Send a picture of the pile, the garage, or the one heavy thing you can't move. Texting is fastest at (586) 843-7247.

  2. 2. We give you a price range

You get a free quote and a time that works for you. Same day and weekend spots when our schedule is open.

  3. 3. We haul it away

We show up, confirm your exact price before we start, load everything, and sweep up. No hidden fees. You don't even need to be home if you leave it curbside or in an open garage.

Questions

How many bulk items can I put out in Sterling Heights?

Priority Waste lists a limit of five bulk items per week on your regular collection day. Call them at (586) 228-1200 to confirm anything you're unsure about.

Does Warren take old refrigerators?

Yes, if the fridge or freezer is empty and the doors are removed. Air conditioners and dehumidifiers are different: they need the Freon removed by a licensed company first.

Will the city take my remodel debris?

Warren won't take building materials, shingles or concrete at the curb, and most cities have similar rules. We haul remodel and construction debris every week.

Do these rules change?

They can. We checked them in October 2026, but always confirm with your city or hauler before setting things out.
